CERT Basic Training Course — Shelton, WA
When the power goes out and the roads wash out, trained neighbors matter. Mason County Emergency Management runs this three-day Community Emergency Response Team course to teach residents disaster preparedness, light search and rescue, fire safety, and disaster medical basics. With 58 people already interested, clearly plenty of Mason County residents want to be useful when it counts.
Tea, Talk, & Time out (Hoodsport)
Bring whatever craft project you've been meaning to finish and settle in at Hoodsport Timberland Library for an hour and a half of stitching, chatting, and tea. It's a standing invitation to slow down with fellow crafters in a room with a view of Hood Canal.
Lower Lake Cushman Waterfall Kayaking Tour
Glide across the emerald waters of Lake Kokanee, better known as Lower Lake Cushman, on a guided 90-minute paddle that ends at the base of a cascading waterfall. Hood Canal Adventures leads this beginner-friendly tour past towering evergreens and resident osprey and beavers, with time to feel the waterfall's spray and snap photos up close.
Tea, Talk & Time-Out (Shelton)
The Friends of the Shelton Timberland Library open their doors every second and fourth Thursday for an hour and a half of unhurried conversation, crafting optional. It's a standing appointment for anyone who wants a break from the to-do list without leaving downtown Shelton.
Best Friends Fridays: "Back to Cool"
Join us for Best Friends Fridays on Sept. 11 from 3:30–7:30 p.m. Stroll 10+ local shops for fall specials, giveaways, and treasure hunting — plus three new stops to check out: The Ice Cream Shop at CJ's Corner, Emerald Wellness, and The Seed-PNW!
Foraging Forest Edibles
Forage your way through meadow, wetland, and forest on a 2.5-hour walking tour of the Olympic Peninsula's wild edible and medicinal plants, mushrooms, and lichen. Hood Canal Adventures' guides teach identification, uses, and harvesting tips, and finish the outing with a wild-foraged tea brewed from what the group finds along the trail.
Mimosa Celebration Brunch
Raise a glass for a good cause at the Mimosa Celebration Brunch, a fundraiser benefiting at-risk and homeless youth in Mason County. Held at Little Creek Casino Resort, the morning features a full breakfast bar, mimosas, a first look at the Youth Connection's remodel designs, and a playful "Wear a Hat That Best Describes You" contest.
Laugh to Save Lives Dinner & Comedy Show
Mason County Search & Rescue turns date night into a fundraiser with the Laugh to Save Lives Dinner & Comedy Show, an evening of dinner, drinks, and stand-up benefiting the volunteer crews who respond when hikers and boaters go missing on the peninsula. Multiple comedians take the stage alongside raffles and a lively community atmosphere.
Rain or Shine Show & Shine Car Show
Shelton Ford & CJDR throws open its lot for an all-makes, all-models car show rain or shine, with a lunch cookout, raffle prizes, and awards for Best of Show, People's Choice, and top finishers. It's free to spectate and just $10 to enter a vehicle, with the lot opening at 9 a.m. for early arrivals.
Gonna Be Golden Jr. Cheer Camp
Kids 4–12 can join the Shelton High School cheerleaders for three evenings of Jr. Cheer Camp, then perform at halftime under the Friday night lights.
Amature Comedy Night
Think you're funny? Prove it at El Sarape Cantina's Amateur Comedy Night, a laid-back show held every third Tuesday where first-timers and seasoned amateurs share the stage. Expect margaritas, tacos, and a rotating lineup of brave souls grabbing the mic.

4th Annual Memorial Miles
Honor the memory of Washington State Patrol's 34 fallen officers by joining the 4th Annual Memorial Miles — a run, walk, or ride event at the WSP Academy in Shelton where shared miles become a powerful tribute to those who gave everything. East Barrio Night
Downtown Shelton comes alive with East Barrio Night, a vibrant five-hour community celebration of culture, music, food, and independence hosted by the beloved Maggie's Market on Railroad Avenue. With nearly 90 people already signed up, this is clearly one of Shelton's most anticipated events of late summer.
2026 Quilcene Oyster Races
Lace up for a half marathon, 10K, or 5K through one of the prettiest courses on the Olympic Peninsula at the Quilcene Oyster Races. Finishers earn a medal, a free serving of local oysters, and an adult beverage at the beer and wine garden waiting at Worthington Park.

Wild Mushrooms of the Olympic Peninsula - Field Tour
Learn to tell an edible mushroom from a look-alike on a guided fungi walk through the Olympic National Forest, led by Hood Canal Adventures forager Jerry Novak. The tour covers identification, sustainable harvesting practices, and public-lands rules before wrapping up with hands-on foraging time.
West Coast Oyster Shucking Championship and Washington State Seafood Festival
OysterFest is hosted by the Shelton Skookum Rotary Club in Shelton, WA. This two (and a half) day event attracts over 16,000 seafood enthusiasts and their families each year with activities, entertainment and delicious foods provided by local non-profits and volunteers.
Hike Dosewallips River Trail
The Dosewallips is one of the great river valleys of the eastern Olympics, and early October is arguably the best time to walk it — big-leaf maples turning, summer crowds gone, the river running clear. This guided group hike starts early from the Brinnon end and makes a full day of it.
Shuck & Share Walk/Run
Lace up for the Shuck & Share Walk/Run, a 5K part of Oysterfest weekend near the Huff 'N Puff Trailhead and sends every registration dollar toward keeping the lights on for neighbors in need. It's a feel-good way to start an Oysterfest morning before the seafood festivities take over downtown Shelton.

2026 Quilcene Fiber Festival
Sheep to shawl and everything in between takes over Worthington Park for the fifth annual Quilcene Fiber Festival, a day of fiber-arts vendors, live demonstrations, food, and music. It's a favorite for spinners, weavers, and anyone curious about where wool comes from.
OCT 2026 - Darkwood Nights
Step into a World of Darkness at this immersive three-day live-action role-playing weekend in the Brinnon woods. Darkwood Nights is a combat-driven LARP unlike anything else in the region.

Joel Gibson Jr. @ Alderbrook Golf & Country Club
A 25-time award-winning Nashville recording artist plays a solo acoustic set at Alderbrook Golf Club in Union. Forty-two people have already responded, making this one of the strongest advance turnouts on the Canal's fall calendar.
Curtis Roy Moore at The Geoduck
The Geoduck sits right on the water in Brinnon, and on a dark November evening a room like that with live Americana in it is hard to beat. Curtis Roy Moore is a Pacific Northwest singer, songwriter, and storyteller who mixes originals with well-chosen covers and a reliable helping of Jimmy Buffett. Three hours, no cover, and dinner available throughout.

Operation FREE BAY
Bouchard Hauling and Removal has teamed up with the Hood Canal Salmon Enrichment Group to launch Operation FREE BAY — a community swap event designed to keep useful items out of landfills and protect Hood Canal's waterways. Bring what you no longer need, take home what someone else donated, and help reduce the waste that threatens local salmon habitat.
Festival of the Firs
Each year the local communities extend a holiday welcome to include festive hunt of firs throughout the County, parades, Santa Claus visits, wagon rides, cookie and wreath workshops, live music, and so much more.

Classic cars, live music from The Lady Drinks Whiskey, and panoramic views of Hood Canal make this free Saturday gathering at Alderbrook Golf Club's The Pointe one of the summer's most scenic events. Running from 11 AM to 2 PM, it's an easy afternoon out in Union with no admission required.

Raffles, a youth performance, speeches, and a moment of silence fill the hours in between. Everyone has a place here, whether you are honoring someone or simply standing with your neighbors.
Operation Free Bay!
One bay of the barn at the Salmon Center opens up, and whatever you no longer need goes in while whatever someone else left goes home with you. It is a swap meet with an environmental point: keeping usable goods out of the landfill protects the watershed that Hood Canal salmon depend on. This is the last of the summer run, so it is now or next year.
