Colorful and modern examples of chainsaw carving can be viewed at the George Kenny School of Chainsaw Carving, located in downtown Allyn on State Route 3 at LakeLand Way. This unique art form, born and perfected in the Pacific Northwest, is now practiced by artisans throughout the world. Allyn offers you the opportunity to watch professional and student chainsaw carvers in action and purchase their work from an extensive on-site gallery. As you drive into town, you can't miss this place - it's lined with smiling cedar bears of all shapes and sizes and an array of chainsaw sculptures attractively arranged amid the piles of cedar chunks and sawdust. One or more carvers is generally outside with a chainsaw whirrrring away with new sculptures gradually emerging. The George Kenny School of Chainsaw Carving has the unique distinction of offering classes to chainsaw carver wannabees. Each year several carving competitions are held at the school, with nationally-ranked competitors vying for prizes. The annual Allyn Days Festival in July helps showcase the art of chainsaw carving, one of Mason County's growing cultural facets. Don't miss "Top of the Cork" wine tasting right next door, featuring an unusual and hard-to-find selection of Pacific Northwest wines.
