Whitewater Paddling

Snowmelt and spring rains tumbling off the Olympic Mountains create a whitewater kayaker's paradise. Steep, boulder-choked gorges create high intensity runs on Vance and the South Fork of the Skokomish River. Less adrenaline-driven boaters find numerous fun, secluded Class II - VI runs through the forested wilderness of the Hamma Hamma, Skokomish and Satsop River drainages.

The definitive guide to whitewater trips in Mason County, Gary Korb's A Paddler's Guide to the Olympic Peninsula provides excellent maps and directions to these off-the-beaten track whitewater destinations.

After a day boofing off rocks and throwing ends, dry off and warm up at one of the area's local eateries. Or, base out of one the many campgrounds, cabins or hotels in the area and hit another river tomorrow.
