Lake Cushman
Lake Cushman

Lake Cushman, with its crystal clear waters and surrounding peaks, is a regal entrance for the Olympic National Park & Forest. Swimming, boating and jetskiing are popular in the summer. Flat water kayakers glide effortlessly along this deep 10-mile reservoir year round, taking in spectacular views of Mt. Ellinor towering above. Fisherman are drawn to favorite fishing holes along the banks of Lake Cushman and its lower offshoot, Lake Kokanee.

Just a mile beyond the far end of Lake Cushman, a visual feast awaits photographers and hikers as the headwaters of the Skokomish River make a wild and steep descent off the Olympics. Easy nature trails shaded by thick stands of fir, hemlock and cedar meander along the banks of both the lake and the river.

Treat yourself at one of the many lakeside resorts, cabins, campsites or bed & breakfasts tucked away in this splendid mountain retreat.

Getting to Lake Cushman

Visitors who take State Route 119 near Hoodsport will climb the foothills of the Olympic Mountains toward Lake Cushman and Staircase. Before heading out, check for road closures due weather conditions and debris fall from the recent Bear Gulch fire.
