Mollusks, microbrews, music and more abound at the annual OysterFest extravaganza in Shelton. Always the first full weekend in October, this local favorite festival draws visitors from all across the state – all in search of the perfect oyster, oyster fritter, oyster stew, or just plain oyster on the half shell. Hosted by the Shelton Skookum Rotary Club Foundation and attended by thousands, OysterFest is home to the West Coast Oyster Shucking Championships and is Washington State’s official seafood festival. The festival also features a popular cook-off, hands-on water quality exhibits, and most likely the largest food menu of any festival around -- 100 unique items on the menu. In addition to oysters, you will find spring rolls, garlic shrimp, homemade strawberry shortcake, fresh cider, and more. Also taste Washington wines and visit the beer tent, listen to dozens of local bands, and more. In addition to all of its offerings, what makes this festival unique? Vendors at OysterFest are ALL non-profit. No commercial vendors here. Your OysterFest visit will help fund scholarships and local community improvement projects throughout the year.
