Spring is upon us—that magical season that awakens both the Olympic Mountains’ wildflowers and human hibernators from wet winter-long hideaways. Historically, we’ve loved this season for the return of summertime wildlife, warmer-weather camping, and a reignited fire to explore our prolific backyard.
This year, we have a whole new reason to get fired up about springtime: the first annual The Traveler 5k is just around the corner! Masterminded by the fine people at Hood Canal Events, and hosted by Alderbrook Golf & Yacht Club, it has all the fixin’s to be the place to be to greet Spring.
WHEN: Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 10:00am
WHAT: The Traveler 5k Run/Walk + Afterparty
Then RSVP on Facebook and share with your friends!
The 3.1 miles of the course meander along easy to moderate paved terrain with a few rolling hills. You’ll not only be flanked by a group of running companions, but will also encounter two aid/water stations along the way. The cheers of the local residents and excited onlookers are sure to give bounce to your step, and the excitement of live local music, good food, amazing views, and a cold beer will pull you through to the finish line.
Maybe 5k sound like too much for you…the non-timed one-mile dash begins at 10:00am on race day for a smaller registration price. Kids under 8 years-old race for free!
Come for the run, stay for the party (or just come for the party)! A number of local vendors will be serving up post-run fare, beer, wine, and coffee. Explore Hood Canal will be front and center representing the community with our spankin’ new event tent. Come by and say hello!
The Pointe is privy to sweeping views of Hood Canal and the seasonal apparition of the form of the iconic Traveler in the face of the Olympic Mountain Range across the way. There’s hardly a better way to set the warm season off right.
Need a place to stay while you’re visiting? There are a number of excellent lodging options right around the corner. Visit our "Lodging" page to find the right one for you.
How about an activity for Sunday? The fun doesn’t stop after Saturday morning’s race! Check in with our “Things to Do” page for ideas on how to extend your play weekend.
We can’t wait to get a look at Hood Canal from your perspective! Be sure to tag your photos with #wildsideWA so we can take a peek. Join the conversation of runners and partiers with #BeTheTraveler. See you there!
