Travel Guide: An Adrenaline Adventure in Hood Canal
If you’re like us, you set a supremely high standard for your weekends. The simple formula? More adventure = more fun. Toss best buds into the mix and stir in a little healthy competition and we’re happy campers.
In the spirit of an adrenaline-packed weekend on the wild side, we’ve crafted an itinerary packed to the gills with these goods. We’ve got the fine folks at Hood Canal Events to thank for the inspiration and party bus transport—we can’t emphasize how easy Jeff and Kerri made our weekend getaway. From locally-sourced treats for lunch to post-ride beers and an all around awesome vibe from front to end, they’re tops in event planning. Go ahead—steal our itinerary and give them a call!
DYK, getting to Hoodsport from Seattle takes under two hours? Swinging south through Olympia might look quicker on a map, but hopping the ferry to Bremerton can be much more enjoyable—catch some rays, scope out wildlife and avoid summertime construction. Bonus!
Once you get your sea-faring (rather, Puget Sound-faring) legs back on land, it’s a short hop on HWY 101 to your fjord-side lodging: Mike’s Beach Resort. Then, Hood Canal Events can ensure it’s smooth sailing from there.
10am | Breakfast at Hoodsport Coffee
Coffee snob? Good. Hoodsport Coffee Co. is a cozy, rustic coffeehouse serving up pastries as tasty as their dark roast (and that’s saying something). On a rainy morning, an americano will do the trick; on a bright, sunny morning, indulge in a scoop of Olympic Mountain Ice Cream. Because local, artisan ice cream for breakfast is what you do on vacation.
11:30am | Check In & Shell Hunting at Mike’s Beach Resort
Years ago, Mike and his wife inherited the stellar views privy to the resort from Mike’s parents and have been steadily making improvements and adding their own distinct style ever since. From romantic seaside cabins to family-sized rooms, Mike’s Beach Resort is a cozy base camp. Don’t skip the beach combing when the tide moves out!
12:30pm | Pickup + Lunch by Hood Canal Events
Hello, new favorite party bus. This renovated school bus is complete with a cooler full of cold drinks (non-alcoholic for the pre-race, local beers for the post-race celebration), a sound system, and handmade lunches by a local Hood Canal chef. Pro tip: don’t skip the tomato jam!
1:30pm | Karting + Ruckus at The Ridge Motorsports Park
If you haven’t yet checked out the high-speed go-karts at The Ridge, then you’re in for an unexpected treat. These little vehicles are capable of impressively high speeds—you’re sure to get bonus points if you can master the complete drift around the first sweeping turn. After each 12 minute session, run back to the lobby to check your score against your buds.
4pm | Cheersin’ Beers Back on the HCE Bus
Cap an adventurous day with a cold beer and classic tunes on your way back to Mike’s. Sh*t talking highly encouraged.
