Join the oyster-obsessed throng of shucking masters, connoisseurs, chefs, and travelers from across the country for a weekend that’s all about these bivalves.
Sponsored by the Shelton Skookum Rotary Club and made possible by hundreds of volunteers from the community, this annual event is entering its 35th year and is expected to be bigger than ever. Come for the live music, microbrews and wine, and plenty of camping, leave with a full stomach and a new appreciation for one of the Pacific Northwest’s culinary icons.
During the weekend, live music will be happening on five different stages throughout the site—one of which is just for kids. In addition to food vendors, expect informational exhibits, hands-on water quality experts, and other artisans and local crafts.
Have you had a chance to meet Shuck the Oyster? If you have yet to make friends, be sure to track this party-oyster down at OysterFest. As per usual, this creature will be the life of the party. Snap a photo and post it using #ShuckTheOyster for a chance to win a Wild Side swag bag.
The centerpiece of the OysterFest is the West Coast Oyster Shucking Championships: a marvel to witness and the reason for the festival's inception. Each year, amidst 500 oysters and a slew of cramped hands, a champion shucker is crowned and awarded ultimate bragging rights along with a sizeable cash prize. Saturday’s competition is all about speed, and Sunday’s competition favors presentation.
Then, what’s to do with 500 shucked oysters but cook them up! Send in your recipes by September 15—those with the tastiest and most creative will be invited to prepare and present at the festival. Winner walks with a cash prize. Feeling up for the challenge? Get more information here.
This celebration rooted in shellfish delicacies expands beyond the palate to create an interactive, social, competitive, family-friendly weekend for all to enjoy.
We love to keep up with your adventures, culinary or otherwise. Share your photos with #wildsideWA for a chance to be featured on our page. See what’s going on from our point of view on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
