The tideflats call once again to salty dogs, sea-fare gourmands, and beachcombers on behalf of one of the greatest oyster-centric parties around! Pull on your rubber boots, hone your quickest shucking game, and get to the annual Hama Hama Oyster Rama.
When: April 21, 2018 from 11-4
Where: Hama Hama Oyster Co.
Set against sweeping views of Hood Canal and peppered with kids and grown-ups from the Northwest and beyond, this annual event is all about the oyster, and this bivalve’s salty stake in Hood Canal’s heritage. Rama is no secret: buy your tickets ASAP to guarantee yourself a spot. Don’t buy one for your kids 15 and under—they enter for free!
As a 5th generation family-run oyster and clam farm, Hama Hama is a staple of Hood Canal culture and sure knows how to throw a good party. To properly tip a hat to these crustaceans and celebrate their delicious heritage, Rama event activities include tours with expert intertidal ecologists and oyster growers.
Pick the brains of true oyster people as you learn about different species, seasonality, and more. Then try your own hand at harvest, and it’s straight to the beer garden with you.
Think you have the fastest shucking skills in the west? Enter yourself into the much-anticipated ‘Shuckathon’ to prove it! This oyster shucking competition is always one of the most anticipated events of the day, and truly, is a sure win for all who enter—someone has to subsequently slurp down all of those shucked oysters!
This year, the fresh Explore Hood Canal tent will be perched on the tideflats, and Shuck the Oyster, our official mascot, will be on the beach answering questions about its own kind and snapping photos with Rama-goers. Be sure to swing by to say hello!
Oh, and don’t forget to share all of your photos with #wildsideWA—we love to see things from your perspective! Happy Mother’s Day and happy beachcombing!
