The month is February and the oyster season is in its prime. When the tide goes out, the table is set. The oysters are fine and firm! Pick your fill at any public access on Hood Canal and South Puget Sound – try Twanoh State Park for starters. Top off your meal with a bottle of Hoodsport Syrah!

Did you know that winter can be one of the best times to walk the wetlands in Belfair? Frostly mornings add a sparkle to the flora. When the tide goes out in early morning, lower temperatures can create frozen moguls across the vast marshy land, offering a view of the wetlands like no other. Wander the trails on these mornings and you’ll experience the winter wetlands in a whole new way.
What is your favorite time of year to traverse this trail? Please share with the rest of us!

Kite boarding is gaining popularity, and Hood Canal offers great winds and sometimes warmer waters. Even if water and wetsuits aren’t your thing, the sport is thrilling to watch. Colorful parachute-like kites trailing athletes that seem to just fly on the wind and through the air — sometimes 10 or 20 feet off the water. On windy days, kiteboarders can be found off the shores of Belfair State Park, among other places. Do you have local kiteboarding pics? Please post a link, or add your photos here!

Have you seen the huge scenic murals going throughout Belfair? They’re worth a trip to check out. On the entry way to Belfair, on the bus stop kiosks, and on the sides of some of the town’s largest buildings. Anyone have a favorite?

This looks like Kim and Carl. They are two of our most active kayakers and outdoors people. This photo was taken near the Theler Wetlands and the Klingel Wetland preserve. The Hood Canal offers unlimited sites for outdoor recreation.

I recognized those Oysters. They are Harry Martin’s world famous oysters. The North Mason Chamber serves them as our main fund raiser for the year. Please stop by our booth at OysterFest and get half a dozen. They are fantastic.
