My 8 year old son loves small Manila, and little neck type clams. I would love to take him claming but I don’t know when the best time is for claming, and oysters, or where to find them?

    Thank you,
    Derrick

    Hi Derrick,

By going to http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/shelfish/beachreg/map11.htm. you can view a map of Mason County and click on any of the beaches that interest you. From there it takes you to specific information (seasons, types of clams, etc) for each beach.

That said, Twanoh State Park, on Hood Canal between Union and Belfair, is good for manila clams, and the season runs August 1 - September 30. Also, Cushman Saltwater Park has been ehanced with manila and other clams, and the season runs YEAR ROUND! There are also a number of manila clam beaches open year round on Harstene Island, near Jarrell Cove State Park. Lilliwaup State Park, the beach near North Hoodsport Hatchery, and North Bay near Victor also have manila clam beds. Enjoy!

    Hi,
I’ve done some clamming before up in the hood canal and puget sound but I never had any luck. I’ll get some here and there, but not compared to what I see people get. My cute nephew is coming up this summer and I would like to take him clamming. Is there any place I should go? It doesn’t matter what kind of clam we get. I just want a place where there be a for sure thing that we get something. Thanks
