I work for the Tribe. The Tribe has access to Squaxin Island. Only tribal members or guests of tribal members are allowed on the island. However, the Tribe also has Arcadia Point boat launch located to the west of the island. This is a great place to launch kayaks or any boat.
In my opinion, South Puget Sound itself is way under-utilized.
If you would like me to discuss Squaxin Island, I would be happy to do so! Or, visit the tribe’s website (I listed the museum’s site above): http://www.squaxinisland.org.
I was kayaking in the area and was also interested in camping on Squaxin Island. I found information on the web and on maps showing a State Park on SE Squaxin Island with camping. Did their used to be a park here that is closed?
Sorry that I didn’t get back to you. We have several events that i was working on over the summer! (Feel free to drop me a line, LJohnson@ieinc.org whenever you need an immediate response).
Squaxin Island State Park no longer exists. I believe there is a state part on Hope Island (adjacent to Squaxin Island). Only Tribal members are allowed on the island these days EXCEPT with permission and a permit from the Tribe (if accompanied by a Tribal Member).
In addition, look for Kamilche Adventures to offer tours of the island. This is a Tribal member owned business. The trips should be offered in 2008. Tours will be booked through
Little Creek Casino Resort.
Thanks for your interest!

Leslie,
Can I get the cost of the tours of the island? I also need to know if there is a cost to visit the museum? I am looking for places to talk students during the summer. These students will be attending Mary M Knight summer school program.
I look forward to hearing from you.
